The role of the Parental Advocate is to empower and support parents to fully engage in Children’s Social Care statutory processes such as:
- Pre-meetings/Post Meetings
- Assessments
- ParentAssess Assessments
- Child In Need (CIN) Meetings
- Child Protection Conferences
- Core Groups
- Statutory Reviews
- PLO meetings
- Legal meetings
- Court attendance.
Eligibility:
The parent of a child/children open to Stoke-on-Trent’s Children’s Social Care and the parent has a diagnosed learning disability, autism or complex needs causing them to have substantial difficulty in one or more of the following:
- understanding relevant information
- using or weighing up information
- retaining information
- communicating their views, wishes and feelings and;
- there is no one appropriate or available to facilitate the person’s active involvement in the process.
Referrals into will only be accepted upon receipt of detailed referral information outlining any risks.
Referrals can only be submitted from the following Stoke-on-Trent City Council Children’s Social Care staff unless authorised by the Lead Commissioner:
- Principal Managers
- Practice Managers
- Social Workers
- Assistant Social Workers
- Conference and Review Managers
- Independent Reviewing Officers
